Take part in the touching rescue of sea turtles in Puerto Vallarta!
We can find six of the seven globally recognized species of sea turtles nesting on Mexican coasts, and all of them have been under full federal protection since 1990. The beaches of Puerto Vallarta are mainly visited by a species known as olive Ridley or Golfina, in Spanish (Lepidochelys olivacea).
In summer, the coast of Banderas Bay provides shelter to female sea turtles who leave the safety of the ocean to venture into one of the most important stages of their lives: to lay eggs in the warm sand of our beaches so that they hatch in the sun. As soon as they bury their eggs, the females return to the sea, trusting the next generation to nature. When the turtles are ready to hatch, volunteers who have tended the nest for about 50 days guard them until sunset to release them after sunset, minimizing the risk of becoming prey to birds, fish and other natural predators.
Our adventure involves meeting this miracle. By joining this tour, you will not only help baby turtles reach the ocean, but also support the hard work of a dedicated team of Mexican biologists and volunteers to improve the survival of Olive Ridley's endangered sea turtle. 18.00 You will meet your guide at Marina Vallarta, where we will start with an informative conversation about the biology and ecology of sea turtles (Spanish and English). Upon completion, we will get into our comfortable cars and go to the starting point of a walk along the beach towards the center of Tortuguero. Once in the center, the guide will tell you about the work carried out there to protect turtles. At sunset, the camp keepers will tell us how we will help the little turtles get to the ocean unharmed.
Once the turtles reach the sea, we will return to our vehicle in search of spawning turtles, however, we cannot guarantee that we will find them as they do not have a specific place or time to spawn.
